Woodoku: Wooden Block Puzzle
Reviews
Description
Placing Wooden Shapes on a Grid
Woodoku is a block-placement puzzle played on a grid. Shapes appear in a panel at the bottom of the screen, and you drag them onto the board, rotating them when needed to fit open spaces. The goal is to complete horizontal rows or vertical columns; when a line is full, it disappears and awards points. The game ends when no remaining shape can be placed anywhere on the grid. There is no timer, so every move can be considered before you commit. [IMG_1]
Classic and Jigsaw Modes
Two named modes change the objective. In Classic Mode, completed lines vanish, freeing space and letting play continue as long as placements remain possible. In Jigsaw Mode, the aim is different: you must place all the given pieces so the board is completely filled. That shifts the thinking from clearing lines to fitting every shape into a finite space. Both modes use the same drag-and-rotate controls, so switching between them does not require learning a new input scheme. [IMG_2]
Planning Moves Without a Clock
Because there is no time pressure, the main challenge is foresight. Clearing multiple lines with a single piece yields more points than clearing one at a time, so it often pays to set up rows and columns that are one or two squares from completion. Stacking blocks too high in one area shrinks the range of shapes that will fit later, which can end a run early. The rotate function is the main tool for making awkward pieces work; experimenting with orientations before placing is part of the routine. Random block sequences mean no two sessions follow the same order, and score tracking lets you compare runs over time.
Who It Suits
The wooden aesthetic, soothing colors, and gentle background sounds give Woodoku a quiet feel that matches its lack of timers. Sessions can be short or long, and the rules are simple enough for players of any age. The appeal is less about reflexes and more about spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, and deciding where each piece belongs before placing it.
